Remote access is a useful feature for controlling your devices while you're away from home. You can access your WeMo and your WeMo devices anywhere you have an Internet connection through your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. Click Remote access is automatically enabled when you setup WeMo as long as the network you are using has an Internet connection. With remote access enabled you can control your WeMo from anywhere your iOS device has an Internet connection. This includes other Wi-Fi networks or your 3G/4G mobile connection. When the WeMo App is launched outside your home, the App contacts the Belkin cloud, the cloud redirects the phones request to the appropriate home, and then you can see and control all the WeMo devices. Control WeMo with More Than One Apple Device WeMo will automatically appear on a second iOS device connected to the network. All the customization done on one iOS device will automatically appear on any additional iOS device you connect to the same Wi-Fi network, including WeMo device names, icons and all the rules. You can use as many iOS devices as you like with WeMo without any problems. How Many WeMo Devices Can You Control? You can add as many WeMo devices as you like. Because each WeMo uses such little bandwidth on your network, you shouldn't notice any side effects. When you setup a WeMo, give it a name, add a picture or create rules - all the information is stored on the WeMo itself. This means that you don't need a hub or a dedicated controller in your home in order for WeMo to work. This means that you can easily control multiple WeMo devices from different iOS devices. When you're away from home all the rules work because your WeMo devices can talk to each other through your home Wi-Fi. Please note however, some routers have a maximum amount of devices they will support. Therefore, some WeMo users may see other devices drop off their network, or only be able to install 1 or 2 WeMo devices at a time. Security WeMo supports all the latest Wi-Fi security modes including WEP, WPA and WPA2. Therefore WeMo is as secure as you make your home Wi-Fi network. Remote access has been designed with the latest security enhancements in place. In addition to this, the cloud only stores a key that connects your iOS device to your home and not any device specific information. Range WeMo devices should have the same or better range than most other Wi-Fi devices. Therefore you can put WeMo wherever you get Wi-Fi connectivity using your laptop, tablets or phones. Bad weather and barriers like walls, cabinets, and doors will reduce Wi-Fi Range. If there is an area in your home you have Wi-Fi dead spots you might consider adding a Wi-Fi range extender. WeMo uses very little bandwidth so your very unlikely to see any impact to network performance. What Can I Use With My WeMo Switch and Motion Sensor? You can essentially control any appliance or electronic device with an on/off switch. A lamp, a fan, a heater, a stereo, you name it. If you can plug it in, you can control it with WeMo. Here are some fun ways that customers are already using their WeMo devices: • Lighting Control: Connect your WeMo Motion so the room lights up when you enter. • Radio: Have your favorite station turn on when you enter for the morning shower. • Air Conditioning Units: Turn on your AC window unit shortly before getting home. • Air Purifier: Turn on your air purifier shortly before you get home. • Electric Coffee Maker: Set your morning beverage to practically make itself. • Privileged Control: Forgot to turn off the TV.
